As a former teacher, there are so many favorite books I love to read to (and with) children. Right now I am reading The Girls Book of Flower Fairies by Frederick Warne. It is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I've ever seen. It captures the imagination of children and brings the world of fairies to life. I am as enthralled with the stories, crafts, and recipes as my daughter. We are learning about flowers by reading this book and even today, my daughter saw a lilac bush and searched for the tiny fairy who must be living there. I would highly recommend this book to spark every child's imagination, creativity and love of all things fairy.

One of my favorite children's books is Alexander and the Terrible Horrible no Good Very Bad Day. This has to be the number one book ever written that describes bad days that we all have had. The book is about a little boy named Alexander and his terrible horrible no good very bad day. Poor little guy, you feel so bad for him, yet you have to laugh at the string of misfortunes that he goes through. It's so hysterical, every time I read it I have to feel giddy and most definitely thankful that my day isn't as crummy as his is. I know I have certainly had days where everything from waking up late, to stubbing my toe, to getting a C on a test has made the whole day go terribly wrong. On my bad days that turn out like his, Alexander makes me laugh, and that's what I need to cheer up, and everyone knows the best medicine for a bad day is laughter.
I very much relate to this piece for sheer fact that he is the most negative little boy in any book I have read. To escape his bad day he wants to move somewhere far away his choice being Australia . My choice being California , but close enough. If he was a girl we would be twins. I have had so many bad days like his I can't count them. Ironically enough while I am writing this, I am having one of those days! I wish I could jump into the book and tell him that he isn't the only one in the world who has terrible horrible no good very bad days. I'd tell him about my bad days, and we would have many things to talk about and be best friends.
I wonder why the author chose Australia for the place where Alexander would like to move to. It seems so random to me. Kind of like saying that I want to move to Swaziland , or Russia , or Ohio , now that's random. I suppose that the fact that it happens to be a children's book makes it easy to just laugh about it, 'Ha-ha he wants to move to the random country where Nemo disappeared to ha-ha that's funny mommy!' That's how I kind of picture it to be. Little kids do like to imagine going places and doing outrageous things, so I figure that if he wants to go to the arbitrary country of Australia then by golly he should just go to Australia

It's hard to pick my favorite children's books because there are so many goods ones (and I hate to leave any out)! I have always loved Dr. Suess books. The rhyming and imaginary creatures are fantastic!
Another favorite all time book for me is The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord. The Giant Jam Sandwich has recently become my four year old son's favorite book too!
In addition to my four year old I also have a 20 month old girl. Both of my kids love to be read to and because of that I found many new favorites too. We all like the Clifford books by Norman Bridwell and the Caillou books by various authors. There are countless other books we like too - too many to list and too many to remember!!!
