Children love hearing stories or making up their own stories. Pretend the placemat is a story. Tell the story to your children. Afterwards they way want to make up their own story to read to you.
Here is part of the story that I told my girls:
“One day Old MacDonald and his animals were hanging out in the barn. The animals asked Old MacDonald, “Please can you play a song for us.” “Yes, I would love to play for all of you.”
The animals were so happy! They all smiled at Old MacDonald. Then, they all sang this rhyme. “Old MacDonald had a farm ee-ay, ee-ay, oh.”

Now that you have talked about the farm animals, visit a farm to see the animals. Your children will have so much fun on your outing.
They are be sure to be singing their favorite rhyme “Old MacDonald had a farm.” Ask them what sounds the animal makes. Which animal is their favorite?
Be sure to share with your children some information about the farm animals. Here are a few facts that you could share with your children:
We get our milk from the cows.
The animals sleep in the barn.
The chickens lay eggs for us to eat.
The farmers work very hard taking care of the animals.
Old MacDonald Had a Farm Preschool Activity: Make your own picture book
You will need white paper and crayons. Staple about 10 pieces of paper together.
Use the first page for the cover of the book. Decorate the cover, with a title, more farm animals, pictures, and your name. Tell your children they are the author of their book.
Have your children draw the pictures of the Old MacDonald with each of the animals on the other pages in the book. Next, write the sound the animal makes and the animal’s name.
